Davos World Economic Forum, 1 Feb 1999, Davos, Switzerland US Senator John Kerry of Massachusetts told 2,500 business, government and intellectual leaders at the annual Meeting that support for protectionism will grow if the US population is not educated about the benefits of globalization and if emerging markets perceive the United States as not being sensitive enough to their needs. “The United States needs to lead and manage globalization,” Kerry said.
